Valencia Basket begins the Copa del Rey Málaga 2024 vs. Dreamland Gran Canaria
Valencia Basket men's team will begin its 25th participation in the Copa del Rey (the twelfth in a row) facing Dreamland Gran Canaria in the quarterfinals (Thursday 15, 9:00 p.m., Martín Carpena, Movistar+ Deportes) in the game of the second turn of the opening day of the Copa del Rey Málaga 2024.
Although the historical precedents against this rival in the KO tournament are favorable to the Taronja team by 3-1, Álex Mumbrú's men will try to change the recent dynamics of Valencia Basket in this tournament, in which it has only managed to overcome the first round in one of the last six editions. It was precisely in this same scenario, in 2020.
For this they will have the support of more than 550 followers who will dye a sector of the Martín Carpena stands with our taronja.
The problems continue to be concentrated in the center position with Boubacar Touré confirmed to be out for this competition due to his back problems and the doubt of Brandon Davies, who although he has begun to partially work with his teammates, has not yet completed any work sessions after missing the Taronja team's last five games due to a sprained knee.
Xabi López-Arostegui, absent from last Sunday's game in Bilbao due to a sprained ankle, returns to a squad of fifteen that is completed by young point guard Sergio De Larrea. The coach will have to leave three of those players out of Thursday's game, one of them necessarily one of the three overseas players.
Valencia Basket comes to the tournament in seventh position in the Endesa League, with a balance of 13-9.
